I use Last.fm on a daily basis. What I use most are the radio features. Wether I’m listening to My Library or My Recommendations, it’s what gets me through the day.
Today they announced that starting on Monday the radio streaming service will become a premium service, with a monthly subscription of € 3. That’s actually not much and if I get all the other features a premium user has, it’s actually a nice deal. What really tickles me about the announcement is that the US, UK and Germany will continue to have a free radio service. Why? So far in all the comment responses, Last.fm officials haven’t come up with a plausible explanation.
I sincerely think Last.fm is going to loose a majority of its userbase. I still haven’t decided what to do. Everyone in the comments have been pointing out Spotify as an alternative, but from the look of the site, I don’t know if it’s available in Portugal or not, and apparently it doesn’t have an official Linux client.
Does anyone know of a good alternative to Last.fm so I can make a decision ’till Monday?
Yay! This is trully great news for all of us… You can visit the store here.
When I bought the concert tickets for Nightwish‘s concert in Porto back in January, I already was concerned about how Anette would perform live. Don’t get me wrong, Dark Passion Play is a great album, but Tarja‘s absence is somewhat noticeable by the hardcore fans. Then while browsing through Youtube, I’ve found out that Nightwish’s Official Channel has videos of some recent concerts. In the new songs Anette performs really well (I really was surprised). In some of the old ones we miss the voice of Tarja, but they are not that bad. There’s room for improvement but since we’re still almost a month away let’s hope their concert in Porto will be one to remember. And also with Pain in the first part, how can it be that bad? 😉
Let me leave you with a song from the new album (part 1, because it’s long as hell) and an old song.
as iTunes domination is coming to an end…
This was announced last week and they’re already there. For now only some indie groups have them available, but Last.fm say they will try to extend they’re partnership with major labels. The videos are in FLV (what else?) but here’s the kick, they have better quality that Youtube’s. The sound is in 128Kbps rather than 64Kbps in Youtube. Very nice.
